LIAM BAILEY FIGHT

Born in Nottingham to an English mother and Jamaican father, Liam Bailey was raised on soulful diet of Bob Marley, The Clash, Stevie Wonder and Jimi Hendrix. Awestruck by their talent, Bailey would sing in the shower while his parents told him to be quiet, (the idea of forging a music career seemed much more like a dream than any kind of viable future reality back then). After moving to London, Bailey persisted in his musical endeavours, gaining a lot of attention in 2010 after releasing two solo EPs via Amy Winehouse’s Lioness Records. Recently, Liam has signed to Brooklyn's fantastic underground soul label Big Crown Records, and is back in the studio recording his debut for the label with producer Leon Michels. Liam has just dropped his first release for Big Crown 'Fight', which he tells us is "about struggles with self. In a positive way. That's why I sing "Our scars forgive us" and the "the futures burning bright no sweating". The song consists of a lo-fi, sun-warped reggae beat with a thumping kick drum, carried by off-beat muted guitar hits and sub bass to fill the gaps. Liam's vocals are impassioned with a slight desperation as he sings at the top of his lungs, scurrying rhythmically between words. The chorus is layered with serene harmonies, juxtaposing with Liam's lead vocal. 'Fight' is an intimate and heartfelt song, the perfect celebratory release after signing to Big Crown. -Ellie Rose-Davies
